You have to take several different tablets – one in the morning, another in the evening – and sooner or later you wonder: how long will my current supply actually last?
That is exactly why MediBestand was created. Enter medications, dosage and current stock once. After that, day to day you only record new packs as stock additions. The app continuously calculates the daily consumption.
The overview shows dosage schedule, calculated stock and remaining days at a glance. Green, yellow, orange and red make it clear when more stock is needed. The Android app can also remind locally in the background; the web app checks stock when opened or used.
Medications can be fully edited or deleted. Dosage changes, stock corrections and stopping a medication are stored with their date so the current stock calculation remains traceable.

The start screen deliberately stays compact: medication name, dosage pattern, current stock and remaining days. Medications can be edited or deleted directly using the action icons; further details appear after tapping a medication.

How it works
1. Set up the stock
Enter medications individually or import an existing stock from a text file. Existing entries can be completely replaced during import after confirmation.
2. Maintain the stock
Record new packs as additions, edit medications and correct dosage or actual stock when needed.
3. Remaining days & reminder
MediBestand calculates stock and remaining days automatically. The Android app can also provide local background reminders at the configured threshold. The web app checks when opened or used and can then show a local notification where supported and permitted.
Import and export stock
The current stock can be exported as a UTF-8 text file and imported again later. For each active medication, the export contains the current name, strength, dosage, calculated stock and export date.
If medications already exist during import, MediBestand first validates the file and then asks whether the existing stock should be completely replaced. If confirmed, the previous medications and history are deleted and the import becomes the new starting point.
A sample file with six example entries is available for download. You can use it as a template, replace the example rows with your own medications and then import the file into MediBestand. The field names in the header are always in English, regardless of the selected language.

Low-stock reminder and prescription request
MediBestand can do more than calculate stock: it can warn about low stock and prepare a prescription request to your doctor. The reminder behaviour differs between the Android app and the web app.
Personal settings
Name, your own email address, doctor or practice, destination email, warning threshold, default subject and standard text are stored locally. The text can use placeholders such as {MEDICATION}, {STRENGTH}, {STOCK}, {REMAINING_DAYS}, {NAME}, {EMAIL} and {DOCTOR}.
Local reminder
When a medication reaches the configured remaining time – 14 days by default – the Android app can show a local reminder and check in the background. The web app checks when opened or used; on iOS there is no daily background check without server/push. After a prescription request has been prepared, that medication is not warned about again until a new stock addition is recorded.
Prepare the prescription email
“Request prescription” opens the mail app configured on the device with recipient, subject and pre-filled text. The user can review and send the message there. MediBestand does not send email itself and stores no mail credentials.
Privacy
Medication names, dosages, stock, history and optional user/doctor settings remain local on the device. The Android app stores them in SQLite/app settings; the web app uses IndexedDB and local browser storage.
The Android app has no Internet permission. The web app must technically be loaded from the web server, but entered medication data is not transmitted to the developer or proprietary cloud services. “Request prescription” hands a pre-filled message to the existing mail app; MediBestand does not send email itself and stores no mail credentials.

Android app and web app
MediBestand is available as a native Android app and as a web app. On Android, the APK is the primary option; on iPhone and iPad, use the web app. On Windows, the web app can be installed in Edge or Chrome and then launched like a standalone app in its own window.
The Android APK is installed outside Google Play. The web app needs no app store: on iPhone/iPad it can be added to the Home Screen; on Windows it can be installed as an app in Edge or Chrome. In Firefox it can still be used normally in the browser.
Downloads are counted anonymously. Only the number and, if provided by the server, the country of origin are stored.
Add MediBestand to the Home Screen on iPhone or iPad
On iPhone and iPad, MediBestand is not installed from the App Store. Add the web app to the Home Screen like this:
- Open the MediBestand web app in Safari using the “Open web app” button above.
- In Safari, tap More or the Share button, then tap “Share”. Depending on your Safari layout, the Share button may already be visible.
- Scroll down and tap “Add to Home Screen”. If it is missing, scroll to the bottom, tap “Edit Actions”, and add “Add to Home Screen”.
- Turn on “Open as Web App” so MediBestand starts like a standalone app.
- Tap “Add” in the top-right corner. The MediBestand icon then appears on the Home Screen.
The web app is loaded from the Internet the first time. Afterwards the required program files are available offline as well. Medication data is stored locally on the device.
Important on iPhone/iPad: a purely local PWA cannot schedule a daily background check without a server or push service. MediBestand therefore checks when the web app is opened or used and can then show a local notification if permission has been granted.
Install MediBestand as an app on Windows 11
On Windows 11, MediBestand can be installed as a real PWA with Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome. Installation starts directly from the opened web app. Afterwards, MediBestand launches in its own window without normal browser tabs or an address bar:
- Open the MediBestand web app from the “Open web app” button on this page in Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome. Wait briefly until the web app has fully loaded.
- As soon as the browser recognises MediBestand as an installable web app, an “Install” button or icon usually appears on the right side of the address bar – in Chrome typically with a small screen/download-style icon. Click it.
- If the Install button does not appear: in Chrome, open the three-dot menu (⋮), choose “Cast, save, and share”, then “Install page as app…”. In Edge, the equivalent option is under “Apps” or “Install this site as an app”. The exact wording may vary slightly by browser version.
- A small installation dialog opens. Check the name “MediBestand” and confirm with “Install”. Depending on the browser, you can then also choose whether to create a desktop shortcut or pin MediBestand to Start or the taskbar.
- After installation, you can close the original browser tab. From then on, start MediBestand from the Windows Start menu, desktop shortcut, or taskbar. The web app opens in its own app window without normal browser tabs or an address bar.
Note: the installed web app still uses Edge or Chrome technology underneath, but in everyday use it behaves like a standalone Windows app. Firefox on Windows does not offer the same PWA installation; MediBestand can still be used there in a normal browser window.
